Mark has only been with Pender's for a few days but already he has amazed students with his tales of lunchtimes up in Cape York country where students eat indoors so as not to tempt the crocodiles out of the local creek. He is here for the coming few weeks as Douglas is on Long Service Leave. Here's a little of his welcome ... I am thrilled to be the Principal of your school in Douglas’ absence albeit for a short time. I am no stranger to the area as I live locally. During my career as a primary teacher I have taught in twelve primary schools and taught every year level and specialist subject except Prep, Music and LOTE. One of the more exciting things I have done recently is working with secondary students in Bamaga (Cape York) Thursday Island and Cairns to develop literacy skills. I am also leading the development of a virtual learning environment that allows teachers and students to come together as avatars and work together regardless of where in the world they live. Google “Skoolaborate” if this kind of stuff interests you. As far as I’m concerned the best years of school are right now in Primary and at Pender’s Grove! Whether you are a parent or a student make the most of these Primary years as they will set you up for a full and rewarding life. I am fortunate to be working in a great community with a fantastic staff. From the office to the classroom, including Ray and Mary on the crossing, everyone has made me feel very welcome. Thank you. My door is almost always open. Feel free to say hello. Mark Kent Acting Principal Comments are closed.
