The end to the 2014 Arts Festival Week was as successful as the start!
Around 60 parents and friends and 40 students attended the annual Music soiree on Thursday night. Students showed off their fantastic musical skills performing instrumental and vocal items for the audience. Our thanks to Warwick, Katie, Fiona and Christine for their efforts in working with students and organising the evening. Thanks also the the wonderfully supportive families and friends who came along on the night. On Friday many families and friends attended the whole school picnic that finished up our Arts Week. We were fortunate to have some great weather which made it a very pleasant day to be socialising together over lunch. Thanks to Clare and the organising committee for their great work in organising events for the week. We look forward to the next Pender's Grove Arts Festival!

A huge crowd of parents, students, relatives and friends turned out for our opening night of the 2014 Arts Festival tonight. Over 250 people attended the event where students sang, danced and played before attendees viewed the fantastic work on display in our temporary gallery in the school library.
Thanks to Clare and the students who have worked so hard over many months preparing the art works on show. Thanks also to Warwick and Amy for working with students on dance and music performances as well as the many staff and parents who spent many hours mounting work, decorating the gallery and outdoor spaces and preparing food for the event. Everyone is reminded that the gallery can be viewed each day after school this week between 3.30 and 4.00pm. This year we will be holding our inaugral Pender's Grove Arts Festival. The festival will be held from October 27th - 31st.
On Monday 27th our opening night will begin in the school hall at 17.00 and conclude at 18:30. There will be an official welcome and opening of the Wonderland exhibition, some dance and music before moving outside for refreshments followed by access to the gallery in the library. Children are invited to dress up as a character from either Alice and Wonderland or Through the Looking Glass Books. On Tuesday during the school day classes will visit the gallery and will be encouraged to reflect upon the connections between the creative arts, life and learning. Thursday lunchtime will see a vigorous debate based on an Alice in Wonderland quote. Year 5/6 students will contest the question - What is the point of books without pictures? On Thursday evening at 6pm we will hold our annual Music Soiree in the school hall. This event will showcase performances from students that learn a musical instrument with our three intrumental teachers; Katie, Fiona and Christine. Our week will end with students having A Mad Hatter’s lunch together on Friday from 12.30-1.15pm. There will be stalls selling small treats for less than $2.00. Families are invited to attend this event and share lunch with their children. Students may bring a picnic rug, if labelled with a family name. Parents and children will be able to visit the exhibition after school between 3:30pm and 4pm during this week. Welcome back to Term Four, our last term of the year! It promises to be a very busy 11 weeks and it was great to see everyone back at school today and ready to learn.
