Physical Education
The Physical Education (PE) program at Pender’s Grove Primary School provides students with a range of physical activities conducted within the school hall and outdoor areas.
All grades from Prep to Year Six are involved in a 50 minute session with a PE specialist each week, and each session is planned in accordance with the Victorian Curriculum Health and Physical Education. These sessions are conducted in the Hall and outdoors. The school hall is a purpose built space containing indoor courts, toilets and storage spaces for PE equipment.
During early years student sessions are based on the practice of basic motor skills and work towards using a variety of skills in minor and major games. In the later years student sessions are based on the development of complex motor skills and movement competence, health-related physical fitness and sport education.
In addition to these sessions students also have the opportunity to participate in many additional activities during the year such as specialized clinics, swimming program, school camps and District sports events like Athletics and Cross Country.
The main F-6 focus areas for Physical Education in the Victorian curriculum are:
Pender’s Grove Primary School is part of the Northcote Sport District and students in Year 5 and 6 play against other schools within this district over a Summer and Winter sports competition (Interschool Sport), which focuses on participation, teamwork and fair play. These sports include Cricket, Softball, Netball, Football, Soccer, Volleyball, Bat Tennis and Rounders.
