Visual Arts Specialist
The Visual Arts program at Pender’s Grove Primary School (PGPS) includes a 50min session in the Art room each week. While the program essentially involves a multi-media approach to Art (combining different media and processes), sometimes a particular medium such as pencil work, wire construction or painting may be studied in depth. Themes may also be undertaken for a term, either as an art initiative, in conjunction with classroom studies, e.g. volcanoes, water, aspects of an environmental study, tessellation or pattern, or as part of a whole school program. The inclusion of various digital technologies reinforces and extends concepts taught. When opportunities arise, students attend excursions or participate in incursions.
The main areas of study are: the elements of art (line, shape, form, colour, space, texture and value), drawing, painting, collage, print-making, modelling, construction and textiles. Students are encouraged to explore, investigate, experiment and create to communicate their ideas and learning about the world around them and themselves. One of the main focuses for students is to develop confidence as artists, therefore supporting each other as learners and collaborating whilst exploring new skills are vital for students’ willingness to have a go! Providing opportunities for students to observe and respond to artwork from peers and others encourages respect and curiosity. PGPS annual Art Festival brings our community together to celebrate all students as artists.
