What a jam-packed last week of term we have had! Thanks to all of the families that attended our welcome BBQ and information evening on Tuesday. It was great to hear our teachers speaking passionately about their classroom programs and exactly how the teaching of literacy and numeracy happens at Pender's. Please see below for a link to the document "201 Literacy and Maths tips to help your child" that was highlighted on the night. On Thursday afternoon this week we had an amazing community turnout to watch our students showing off the amazing circus skills that they have been learning across the term in our circus skills program. I don't think have seen such a huge crowd in our school hall for quite a while! Thanks so much to the parents and friends that assisted with our BBQs and cake stall at the two community events. It was terrific to see so many people at the school catching up with each other and celebrating the great learning that has happened this term.
Have a happy and safe holiday and we look forward to seeing you all back on Monday April 13th. School starts at 9.00am on that day and a reminder that there will be no school assembly held on that afternoon.

A great training session was held on Monday this week with James and Douglas and all of our prospective Peer Support leaders for 2015. The day was spent thinking and learning about the ways in which we can all work toegther to support one another in the school while playing and participating in some engaging and fun games and activities! Our Peer Support program will be held every second Tuesday afternoon beginning in Term Two.
What a fantastic effort this year! We had 147 students walk, ride, skate or scoot to school on Friday March 13th we handed out special stickers to students. Ride to School Day is a great activity that promotes healthy living and exercise to everyone in our community. Some of our student then surveyed the classes to work out the percentage of students in that class that rode to school on the day. See below for the results:
Ride to School Day 2015 Results 3-5M 62.06% F-2M 66.66% F-2A 70% F-2W 78.26% 6A 84.21% F-2R 86.36% 3-5N 85.71% 3-5J 88.88% Next Tuesday evening, March 24th, we will be holding a welcome to the year sausage sizzle for students and families at 5pm in the school yard. Sausages and bread will be provided for free by the school and Community Events Committee for this event. From 6pm in the hall we will be holding a short presentation regarding the school’s English and Maths programs for approximately 45 minutes. At the conclusion of our circus program next week we will be having a presentation afternoon when students can show off the terrific skills they have learnt this term. This will be held next Thursday March 26th at 2.30pm in the hall. Following this our Community Events Committee will be holding a cake stall outside the hall as a fundraiser for the school. In the newsletter this week we outlined the process required for a School Council election for two available parent positions. We would like to inform you that due to the withdrawal of one of the candidates there is no longer a need for an election as the number of nominees equals the number of positions available. As a result voting slips do not need to be returned to the school. The two successful candidates are: Lori-anne Sharp and Natasha Roberg.
