Staff from the Darebin library were at the school to discuss with classes the criteria and process for books receiving awards. Thanks to Fiona (PGPS parent and also from Darebin library) for organising this. Stories around the School: This year we conducted a number of short picture book readings staged around the school at recess and lunchtime across the week.. As the theme for Book Week this year wass Australia: Story Country, chosen books were written by Australian authors. Friday 26th August: Book Character Dress Up Day Students dressed up as characters from books by Australian authors or as Australian authors. We had a terrific parade with lots of parents and carers watching on in the hall.

We were delighted on Monday this week to host a visit by teachers and Assistant Principals from Doan Thi Diem Primary School in Hanoi, Vietnam. The teachers were very impressed with our students, staff and the school. Thanks to our fantastic senior student ambassadors who greeted them and helped to show them around the school. We were honoured to be presented with their school emblem which is on display on our front office counter. As part of the ongoing celebration of NAIDOC Week on Tuesday 16th we hosted members of the Fitzroy Stars Football and Netball clubs, who will ran Football and Netball clinics with students from years 3 to 6. Also on the day the Victorian Aboriginal Healthy Lifestyle Team worked with our F-2 students playing indigenous games in the hall. It was a fantastic morning and our students had a tremendous time. It was also great that the weather was kind to us and it was the perfect day to be outdoors! Thanks to Ralph, our KESO, for organising the event and also to all the players for coming along and sharing their skills with us. Congratulations to our Grade Six students that went along to the Basketball Round Robin earlier this week. The teams did not end up in the finals on the day but both the girls and boys teams had wins during the day that they were really happy with. Well done to them all for a great day representing Pender’s Grove. In addition to our staff that helped organise and went on the day, thanks also to Andrew for giving up his own time over the last few weeks to come in and train the teams during lunchtimes.
Yesterday our Year 3-6 students participated in science activities as part of the immersion for their Term 3 science inquiry unit. Our Grade 3-4s worked on tasks relating to plant life and our Grade 5-6s participated in activities focussing on animal life. Our students will now begin their thinking about a focus for their own inquiry to answer a question that they have about science.
