Thanks to everyone in our wonderful Pender's Grove community for helping to make 2016 such a brilliant year! We look forward to seeing everyone back in the new year. Congratulations and good luck to our amazing Grade Sixes who are heading off to new adventures at secondary school!

Our installers have finished their work today and the area looks fantastic. It was lovely to see so many students making the most of this huge new quiet space to eat, chat and rest during lunchtime and recess today.
What a great night we had last Friday when so many of our students, parents carers and families came along to our Footsteps Dance Night. Over the last term our students have been participating in weekly dance lessons and this was their night to show those fantastic skills off! It was also great to see so many family members getting up and joining in with the fun!
Thanks to everyone who came along and, as always, to our fantastic Community Events Committe who organised the sausage sizzle on the night. "This year 11 November marks the 98th anniversary of the Armistice which ended the First World War (1914–18). Each year on this day Australians observe one minute’s silence at 11 am, in memory of those who died or suffered in all wars and armed conflicts."
https://www.awm.gov.au/commemoration/remembrance/ In Art this week students have been making poppies of various sizes and media to mark Remembrance Day. The poppies have been used to create a large temporary outdoor artwork. Grade 3/4s are starting to weave. Beautiful but the students are learning a lot about persistence, patience and asking for help from their peers. Look forward to seeing the end result!
Last week saw 49 of our intrepid 5/6 students accompanied by teachers and parents head off on our yearly senior school camp to Wombat Corner in Emerald. The group had a fantastic time and spent their days canoeing, walking, doing archery and a number of other activities to be topped off at the end of the camp with a ride on Puffing Billy! We look forward to their camp stories when they join us back at school this week.
We recently held our bi-annual Arts Festival here at Pender's. The festival involves some spectacular displays of visual and performing arts that have been prepared over the last 18 months. Out opening night was a fantastic success with over 300 people turning our on a cold, wet and wintery night to see what talented artists our Pender's students are.
We began with some musical performances lead by Warwick our Music Specialist and Katie, one of our instrumental teachers. Amy, one of our 5/6 teachers, also presented a dance performance prepared by a group of 3-6 students. We then saw the official opening of the gallery in our school library and a new outdoor 3D mural celebrating our school values that has contributions from all of our students. The evening was also a fantastic social event with a BBQ organised by our hardworking Community event Committee. Thanks to Clare our fantastic Art teacher and everyone involved and we look forward to our next show in 2018! October is Walk to School month at Pender's Grove. It has been great to see so many students walking, riding and scooting their way to school since the start of the term. Today we had a special morning tea of fruit and muffins provided by Darebin Council to celebrate. Thanks to everyone for supporting this great initiative!
There was great excitement at Pender's earlier this week as it was the first session of our Footsteps Dance program. All students from F-6 are participating in the program which is part of our Term 4 Physical Education program. Students attend a one hour session once a week on Mondays in our school hall. The program will run for 8 session and finishes later this term. What a terrific term we have had! We will see you all back ready for a busy Term 4 on Monday October 3rd.
A reminder that our Foundation Transition program starts early next term so please contact us as soon as possible if you are planning on enrolling with us for 2017 as we still have places available. |
