Well done to the professors that ran our student led science experiment day with 34J, 34O and the Multiage class. Students have been planning for this special event over the last few weeks and their knowledge and love of science was made evident today.
Students explored gases by placing bicarbonate soda powder in a bottle and mixed it with vinegar. A balloon placed at the top of the bottle expanded and filled with Carbon dioxide. The second group exploded plastic bags by placing bicarbonate soda with warm water in a zip up bag. The bags popped open each bag expand with all the carbon dioxide. The third group had large bottles full of water with a pin hole. No water was coming out even though there was a hole. When the lid was removed the air pressure was equalised and water began to pour out. The final group had cups with three liquids that did not mix. Their was water, oil and treacle. Students enjoyed talking about density and various qualities of different liquids. A nail went to the bottom, a cork floated on top of the oil and the grape sat on top of the treacle layer.
