We are looking at biology for our science inquiry this term and have started off by looking at how plants transport water and energy through ducts called xylem and phloem.
We left some stalks of celery in water dyed with food colouring and observed how the colour appeared in the leaves of the celery stalk. We then dissected our celery stalks to examine how these ducts (called xylem) transport water from the base of the celery stalk up to the leaves for photosynthesis. In our pictures you can see these how these ducts have been coloured by our dyed water. .
