We mentioned the other day how wet it was on the weekend. Well did you know that on Sunday it was the wettest August day on record for 20 years? Almost 3cm of rain fell on that day and that hadn't happened in August since 1999! That reminded us of how much we love reading about world records. Do you have a Guinness Book of Records at home or have you read one of the copies in our school library? We would love to hear the most amazing world record that you have read or can remember!

Well the winter weather was certainly back on the weekend. We managed to get outside a very short walk yesterday between the showers but most of the weekend we hunkered down in the lounge room not too far from the heater. What did you get up to on the weekend? Board games? Movies? Sleeping? Reading? Douglas wanted to mow the lawn but even when it wasn't raining when ground was so wet his feet just sank straight into it! What do you find to do when it is too cold and wet to go outside?
Do you know something? We are all quite pleased here that we all had a haircut not too long before the current lockdown started! At the moment we are looking quite smart but it will be interesting to see what we all look like in another 4 weeks! How is your hair looking? Is it looking a bit wild or are you rocking a lockdown hairstyle?
Some times when Douglas goes for his walk in the morning one or other of the dogs stays behind. On the weekend Bruno wanted to stay in bed so Panda went on his own. One of the side effects of this is that everybody walks a whole lot faster! Are there things that you like doing on your own without help or company? What sort of activities can you do if you need to get a bit of a break from everybody else while we are all spending a lot of time together at home?
Most days we go for a walk for our daily exercise. Some mornings we stop at 7-11 to buy the newspaper or a coffee. This is a photo of us waiting outside the shop for Douglas. Some days it is early in the morning and dark when we go and some days we go later in the day. How are you getting your daily exercise? Are you exercising around your house or going out for a walk, run or a bike ride around your neighbourhood?
Wasn't it a good weekend to be inside? As it was a bit cold and wet we didn't need any other excuse to stay indoors and watch TV for a while. We also spent a bit of time catching up with relatives on Zoom (Douglas caught up with his Dad and his brothers) and doing some cooking. On Saturday night we had a BBQ but we chose to eat indoors! What did you get up to?
Who likes doing jigsaws? Trish and Ellie like to get out a jigsaw every now and then and do it together. This is a picture of one they were starting the other day. They make the jigsaw on a special mat that you can roll up while you are doing the jigsaw and put it away for a while if you need to use the table or space that it is laid out on. Isn't that a clever idea?! This jigsaw is 500 pieces, what is the biggest jigsaw that you have done?
It was Ellie's birthday last Friday and as she loves to bake cakes, she made herself an amazing lemon curd cake. It had lots of layers of cake, lemon and cream and was delicious. We tried to make it a special birthday for her even though we couldn't go out to eat and celebrate with others in the family like we usually would. We ordered lots of delicious take away for dinner and then had an online Webex celebration with the family! Has anyone else had a birthday during lockdown?
