Term 2 Online Quiz Night

18/5/2020

Seven teams came together last Saturday for the Pender's Online Trivia Night on probably the latest night “out” most of us have been on in a while. Around 60 people got on board with the virtual gathering, allowing the hosts to beam them back and forth between meeting rooms with their friends and the main room. We had some lively discussions about the number of monkey bar rungs in the rear playground and invited each other into our respective kitchens as we searched for the largest drinking vessel and the oddest kitchen gadget. It was a different experience from last year’s trivia night in the assembly hall, but still a good way to get to know the school’s parent community or catch up with friends.
The attendees raised $970 to be spent on an event (adhering to the relevant safety protocols and rules of course) to say thank you to the Penders staff and the wider school community, for the massive effort, energy and dedication involved in getting through this period together

Upcoming 2019 events...

The Community Events Committee is a group of parents and carers that works together to manage all the fundraising and community events that happen at Pender’s. Each term, we try to have one community focused event. So everyone, please save the dates for:
Term 2: Winter Solstice Festival Thursday 27th June (day before last day of term)
Term 3: Trivia Night Saturday 14th Sept
Term 4: Kris Kringle Night Market Friday 13th Dec

The community event for this term will be a community picnic at Pender’s Park after school and into the evening on the last day of term (April 5). It’s simple: bring what you need for a picnic or bbq, or take the easy road and pop up to High St to pick up fish n chips when the troops start to get hungry. Come down when you’re ready, leave when you’re done, and spend the time in between socialising with other Pender’s parents while the kids tear around on their bikes. We look forward to seeing you there and meeting some of the new families at Pender’s Grove this year.

For parents who are interested in contributing to the community life of the school, the CEC welcomes you to join us. We don’t have any meetings in real life, which means working parents are welcome and able to participate. All our communication happens via an email thread, so if you’d like to be added,  leave your details at the office. Parents on the committee contribute in lots of different ways, from organising major events like the Mother’s Day Stall or the Kris Kringle Night Market, to bringing soup for the Winter Solstice festival, volunteering for a Bunnings bbq or turning up early to an event to decorate. Parents can contribute as much or as little as they’d like or are able, and all are welcome!

What a Market!

On election day, Pender’s Grove was transformed into a market place. People came to our school to vote, but were then enticed by the smells of sausages and Indian food, lured further by the promise of home-baked goods, and then completely captured by the live music and more than twenty stalls set up in the quadrangle area.

From second-hand goods, hand-made jewellery and honey, to confectionary, olive oil and craft, there was something for almost everyone. So many people must be thanked for making it possible: the absolute swarm of parent volunteers who worked tirelessly and with good humour at the stalls all day; the Pender’s kids who manned the second-hand book stall; the parents and students who paid for stalls and contributed to the fabulous collection of wares being sold on the day; the students and parents who shared their talents and provided us with live entertainment; the professional stall holders who brought along their unique wares; the fabulous Grace coffee van that kept everyone adequately caffeinated all day long; the community events committee who worked hard in the lead-up to get it all organised; the bakers and gardeners and readers who donated cakes and plants and books for the stalls. Without these combined efforts, our Makers’ Market would not have been possible.

The funds raised on the day will be put towards shade sails for the outdoor areas. Well done to the Events Committee, Staff and PGPS families for their efforts at the Election day market.  Total funds raised on the day were $3526.30 ,  the feed back has been really positive and the market had a great feel on the day.
