Literacy Support & Tutor Program at Pender’s Grove Primary School

Intervention and Extension Programs at Pender’s Grove Primary School

At Pender’s Grove Primary School we are committed to ensuring that every student reaches their full potential. When students face challenges and fall below expected levels,
we step in with targeted support and personalized interventions to help them catch up and build confidence. At the same time, we strive to extend and enrich learning opportunities for all students, encouraging those who are ready to explore beyond the standard curriculum.

Our goal is to create a balanced environment where every child is challenged, supported, and inspired to achieve their very best. Our open ended teaching approach allows for this in
every classroom but some more specific programs that are also available are:

Tutor Learning Initiative (2023–2025)

Through the Department of Education’s Tutor Learning Initiative, Pender’s Grove receives additional funding to engage qualified tutors to support students who need it most. The program provides targeted teaching in either a small group classroom setting or outside of regular class time, depending on individual learning needs.

In 2025, our tutor is Vicki Dong, who works with selected students to provide regular, structured literacy support aimed at accelerating learning growth and confidence in reading and writing.

Victorian High-Ability Program

The Victorian High-Ability program provides high-ability students in Years 5 and 6 at government primary schools the opportunity to participate in 10-week online enrichment programs, in English and Mathematics. The virtual program, delivered by Virtual School Victoria, focuses on extending and developing students’ mathematical and English abilities.
After completing the virtual program, students participate in a face-to-face masterclass with other high-ability students from schools in their local area.
