Grade 3/4J helped us login to Mathletics and then our brains worked hard to think about the maths sums. We were as fast as lightening! Someone in our grade was very creative and made a t-shirt with numbers all over it! We completed lots of Math activities today including: dominoes, unifix blocks, counting our money we raised and making shape pictures. We also read poems and books that taught us about counting, shapes and maths words. We've had a fantastic day! We love Maths! Here is just a peek into our celebration of World Maths Day today. It was great to see students argue about the largest number or discuss how to read large numbers. Well done to those who answered the challenge to complete 10 challenges over five levels! Thanks for everyone's fun filled participation.
A fantastic $330.10 was raised for a special School-In-A-Box with some money that will be used by UNICEF. To see more wonderful photos you will need to subscribe to our special online newsletter! Students and staff arrived at school today in a range of numbered casual clothing. A number of classes used the opportunity to play a range of place value games that proved lots of fun. A special thanks to those who contributed a donation to UNICEF for the purchase of a School-In-A-Box. A total of $330.10 (plus an interesting Thai coin) was donated. These gifts have ensured that 80 disadvantaged students will receive a wide range of educational resources to support their learning. During the day students perched on the edge of their seats as their fingers tapped on the keyboard as they participated in World Maths Day. Students from Prep through to Year six competed against students from around the world improving their automatic recall of basic number facts. Students are encouraged to complete 50 online challenges against other students from around the world as they participate in World Maths Day. Make sure you subscribe to our online newsletter to see some of the numerous pictures of our student's numerical appearance!
On Thursday, the Early Years classes were treated to an engaging road safety presentation by the RACV. The incursion was part of our investigation into communities and how we interact, and it taught us many things about keeping ourselves safe on the roads. We learned that helmets are not just for bike riders, but for skateboarders, roller-bladers and scooter-riders too! Liz and Anne from the RACV also taught us how to cross the road safely, and about some of the most important safety equipment we can use – our EYES and EARS. The classes will all be doing further investigations into road safety and will be meeting more people from our community in the coming weeks. If you have not subscribed to the online version of the newsletter you are missing out! All the latest colourful pictures from life at Pender's Grove are included as well as the most up to date news of events.
