All grades from Prep to Year six are involved in a one hour session in the Visual Arts each week. These sessions are conducted in the Art room. While the program essentially involves a multi-media approach to Art (combining different media and processes), sometimes a particular medium such as pencil work, wire construction or painting may be studied in depth. Themes may also be undertaken for a term, either as an art initiative, in conjunction with classroom studies, e.g. volcanoes, water, aspects of an environmental study, tessellation or pattern, or as part of a whole school program, e.g. Polynesia, Spirit of Africa and this year’s theme, “Land of Dreams – an Australian Journey”. The main areas of study are: the elements of art (line, shape, form, colour, space, texture and value), painting, collage, print-making, modelling, construction, textiles, criticism and aesthetics. The students learn about these topics through practical experience and discussion. When opportunities arise, students attend excursions or participate in incursions. Students work is displayed both within the school and in public forums. Victorian Essential Learning Standards (The Arts)
