Pender's Grove Primary School was established in 1924 and is located in the northern suburbs on the border of Thornbury and Preston, with the majority of students residing in the City of Darebin. The school population of approximately 170 students represents a diverse range of socio-economic, cultural and language backgrounds. Croxton Special School has a multi-age class of approximately 10 students who are integrated into appropriate curriculum activities. Pender's Grove Primary School provides comprehensive programs in all the domains of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards. English and Mathematics are given emphasis across the curriculum. The curriculum is enhanced by a variety of enrichment programs including literacy support and extension programs, Reading Recovery, special event days, visiting performances, excursions, camps, swimming, interschool sport, computer lab with Internet access, Peer Support and Junior School Council. The school also provides transition programs for Kindergarten to Prep and Year 6 to Year 7. The school community works together with, and for, the benefit of all students. The professional staff plan, teach and evaluate the curriculum collaboratively. They are committed to upgrading their skills by participating in professional development activities both within and outside school hours. Strong communication links exist between home and school. Parents are encouraged to be actively involved in their children's school experiences. They are represented on School Council and sub-committees. Parents and volunteers assist in classroom programs across the curriculum and organise community events and fundraising activities. The school's Student Wellbeing Program also encourages close ties between home and school.
