Welcome Back!
Monday, 05 October 2009 08:50
With eyes wide and lots of questions about the term students started back at Pender's today. It was great to hear the many enthusiastic greetings and see the smiles as our learning community started the final term of the year. Students quickly settled back into their routines and dived into learning experiences. Lots has been planned already so keep an eye out to catch the latest news on excursions, school events and what is happening in our classrooms by visiting our site.

Learning Together about Resilience
Monday, 14 September 2009 16:22
One of the highlights this year has been the way in which students from Croxton Multiage Class have been participating in the learning life of 3/4/5J and 3/4C. Each week students from these classes have been learning about strategies and skills that help make us resilient people through the Bounce Back Program. Lessons explore relationships and communication as well as dealing with emotions and solving conflicts effectively. Recently students constructed a sun with acrostic poems containing phrases and words that remind them of hope when they are in difficult times. "What gives this time a real sharpness," says Jeff (the 3/4/5J teacher), "is that we get to talk and learn about what it means to be human, who we want to be as people. We ask ourselves who do we want to be and how can we make decisions that help shape who we want to be. Plus, it's a lot of fun!"

Jammin' at Pender's
Tuesday, 15 September 2009 14:22
Congratulations to Pender's Grove Senior Choir for a fantastic performance at Darebin's Music Fest, Schools concert; "The Jam". On Tuesday 15th September, six schools from the City of Darebin performed at the Preston Town Hall in a variety of bands and choirs. The Mayor opened the concert with a short speech and all the students enjoyed the performances having a big all-in dance to the last band. Pender's Senior Choir performed six songs as the second last group and were a great credit to the school. Though we only had thirteen performers, they sang a wide variety of songs with beautiful, strong, clear voices.  The organiser and other teachers congratulated us on the great performance, commenting on the lovely voices and challenging songs and harmonies. There was a little more impromptu singing at the bus stop and on the bus on the way home for the public's pleasure! So, well done choir, we all look forward to more performances in term four.

The Knitting of a Tree Jumper
Monday, 14 September 2009 13:58

The clicking of knitting needles has caused great laughter and learning this week at Pender's. Students have loved learning to knit-one-purl-one during their lunchtimes in the library and have created the most amazing colourful tree jumper ever seen! It has caused a great interest from our local community with the visit of the local newspaper and many questions from parents and passing people! Now the tree has a jumper we can only guess what the knitters might be creating next ... socks for the flagpole?
