Thankyou to all the parents who visited their child's teachers yesterday. It was wonderful to see teachers and parents collaborating so well to enhance the learning of students. A particular thanks goes to teachers who stayed back late to ensure the clear communication between school and home during this reporting season! Parents are encouraged to return the Parent Comment Page as soon as possible. |

Students from the Switched On / Switched Off engagement project hosted a visit from Dr Jane Ward today. Dr Ward is a pharmacologist from Melbourne University conducting research into asthma. Students in 3/4C and 3/4/5J created models of the lungs using balloons, measured their lung capacity using a flow meter and shared in the exciting new discoveries Jane has made in treating asthma
Students said ... - it was interesting learning about the lungs.
- it really increased our neurons as we thought about it!
- it was great to do lots of hands on learning.
- hands on means more engagement.
More than anything it was a chance to see what engagement looks like! Jane's energetic and inclusive learning experinces left no one doubting how engaged she was in her science work. |

Train Station Under Construction in School Hallway |

Students in 345J have constructed the Montparnasse train station outside their room over the past few weeks. "It a chance to enter into the 'Invention of Hugo Cabret', a book that we have all enjoyed," Jeff explains. "The book by Brian Selznick tells the story of an orphaned boy who lives in the walls of a Paris train station. "It really is a story of him learning to care for others again and trusting others after the death of his parents." Don't be afraid of stopping by 345J. You might even catch some Hugo types venturing in and out of the secret grate! Here is one of our students dressed up as the bitter old man who owned the toyshop booth at the station. Can you see Hugo?

Zora Marko and Bruce Butler have spent 12 and 7 years respectively sharing their time and energy to help shape our learning community. "Their enthusiasm and drive has significantly contributed to the supportive and caring community that has been established here at school," said Glendy. Both Bruse and Zora were presented with framed certificates of acknowledgement from the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. |
