What's Important on Our Website?
Saturday, 14 November 2009 16:24
After our first month on the internet here is a small insight into what we have posted on our new website. It's in the form of a wordle! It is a toy for generating 'word clouds' from the text in our website. The clouds give greater importance to words that appear more frequently. I wonder what this wordle says about our site. Any ideas?

Saying Sorry
Wednesday, 04 November 2009 11:28

Wednesday, after recess, is the time we gather to talk about resilience and values. Over the last few weeks we have been exploring what happens when friendships become a little shaky. This week students from 34C, 345J and the Multiage Class focussed on the importance of saying sorry. After reading the National Apology and the poem 'Apology', by Judith Voist, we brainstormed some helpful reminders about how to say sorry. Here they are ...

Do's  Don'ts
  • talk about what you are sorry for
  • walk away
  • talk about what you will do differently in the future
  • swear or shout
  • tell the truth
  • be violent
  • be helpful and nice to the person in the future
  • say sorry if you do not mean it
  • mean what you say
  • do it again
  • look at the person you are apologising to
  • don't leave it too long
  • be friendly
  • don't say it angrily
  • change your behaviour
  • make it worse by fighting
  • talk calmly
  • don't say sorry because you should or are told to
  • think about ways to repair the damage
  • laugh at others
  • take responsability for your actions and say sorry
  • ignore others or the problem
  • think about the next step
  • offend others
  • show respect to the other person

  • ask for help if needed

  • remember the problem so it doesn't happen again

  • move on after the problem is solved

  • calm down before you say sorry

  • accept other's meaningful apologies

Music is Everything
Friday, 23 October 2009 19:39
What a great sound Pender's Grove makes when they all sing together! We nearly brought the roof down singing "The Music is Everything" at 11.30 on Thursday. It was so great we sang it twice. Thank you to all those students from Prep to Year 6 who put in the time and effort learning the words, melody and actions and then sang with all their heart. Music is a great gift of our humanity and sharing it together is a wonderful thing. It is a great song this year too, written by John Foreman and others to highlight the importance of music in our education. To check out the project and this years song and music information, go to www.musiccountusin.org.au. You can also download sheet music, music as MP3 files and lyrics.

Wombat Corner Camp
Thursday, 29 October 2009 09:56
In September, most of the kids in Years 5 & 6 travelled by bus to Wombat Corner Camp in Emerald. We were all really excited and couldn’t wait until we got our camp booklets so we could find out who our cabin mates were. Ten minutes after we’d moved in, most of the cabins looked like a cyclone had gone through! We did so many things at camp, it’s hard to remember every activity but here goes - flying through the air on the fabulous flying fox, eating, wobbling around the ropes course, hitting the golf ball around the mini-golf course, eating, abseiling down the rock wall, paddling a canoe in the lake, eating, taking a long walk over and past the Puffing Billy track, jumping up and down on the trampoline, eating and playing table tennis and snooker in the Games Room!! Did I mention the great food??? If you ask some people they’ll tell you that their favourite activity was playing sock wrestling! Other people had a great time dressing up and acting out their plays at night in the hall. On the final day we walked over to the Emerald Lake Park and did a massive scavenger hunt. Unfortunately we ran out of time to do everything because we had to try and squeeze more food into us (lunch) before loading our bags onto the bus and heading back to school. After three days of activities and lots of laughs we were exhausted but everyone had a great time. Have a look at some of the pictures we took over the three days …

Stepping Out
Monday, 19 October 2009 09:58
Students from Prep to Year 6 stepped and grooved to some great rythms today. For many the movements were fluid while others were just happy to have a go! The school hosted a special visit from Footsteps Dance Company introducing everyone to a number of new dance routines. There were laughs as everyone made sure the newly polished hall floorboards were scuffed up! Zach, in Year 5, said, "The best part was how the instructor related to us. She used lots of humour and we all had a great time."
